Plans for a brand-new primary school for children with special educational needs have been approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The former Middlehurst School, on Turnhurst Road in Packmoor, will be demolished to make way for a brand-new SEN primary school.

Middlehurst School opened in 1972 and closed in its current form at the end of 2012.

Since, the building has been vandalised with broken windows and evidence of historic fires damaging the inside of the building.

The destroyed building will be knocked down and a replacement school built at the same location.

The brand-new SEN primary school will cater for more than 80 pupils across ten classroom (Affinity Design).

The Watermill Satellite SEN School is intended to work in partnership with the Watermill School in providing education to students with challenging needs.

Watermill School, located off Turnhurst Road, operates above its current capacity and has limited scope for extension.

However, the authority has suitable nearby land to develop the facilities further.

The new facility will cater for around 82 students aged between 7-16.

The site offers 91 parking spaces, 6 disabled parking spaces, 7 bus parking spaces and 2 parking spaces for electric vehicles. There is also a dedicated parking area for service vehicles.
