Aspect of £1.9m plan for Longton 'put on hold'

One aspect of the £1.9 million plans for Longton has been "put on hold" after it proved to be unpopular in the public consultation.
Improvement plans for transport and public spaces in the town were approved following this summer's consultation, with hundreds of residents taking part in the survey.
A plan to reverse the traffic flow of the one-way system on Transport Lane has been "put on hold, awaiting further consideration" after it was supported by just 46% of respondents, the city council said.
The most popular proposal was to upgrade the Times Square traffic signals, supported by three-quarters of respondents, while a further two-thirds backed better pedestrian links between Tesco Extra, the bus station and the town centre and creating a red route into Times Square.
Cabinet member for transport, infrastructure and regeneration at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Cllr Finlay Gordon-McCusker, said: "This has been about listening to people and shaping the plans around their priorities.
"We can now get on and deliver the much-needed improvements that Longton and its people deserve."

The £1.985 million scheme also hopes to improve congestion and bus services in the town.
The city council is currently drawing up plans with contractors with work set to start later this year.
They aim to deliver transport-focused projects by Spring 2026 and others later in the year.
The plans have received funding from the government's Levelling Up Fund, Bus Service Improvement Plan and Transforming Cities schemes.
These proposals form part of wider £6.5 million public realm plans which will also include improvements in Burslem and Stoke.
