A new 'one-stop shop/family hub' and soft play area could open inside a Stoke-on-Trent market, if plans are approved by the city council.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has submitted a planning application for the "certificate of proposed lawful development for use of part of lower ground floor of Hanley Indoor Market as a one stop shop/family hub and soft play area".

The application proposes that a number of vacant stalls inside Hanley Market would be converted to accommodate new spaces for a family hub.

Three market stalls would be converted to a small library and a further number of stalls would be converted into a soft play area.

Hanley Indoor Market is situated in the basement of The Potteries Centre (Nub News).

The application form states: "A Family Hub is a one stop shop for families to access information, advice and support on different areas of family life. This is delivered by multi agency teams and includes one to one consultations, groups and activities for families e.g. baby and toddler groups, parenting classes.

"The proposal is looking to enhance the offer within the market and provide a wider range of community options. It is felt that proposals offer a wider range of opportunity for the market and that they do not look to fundamentally change what market but rather make it more expansive.

"It is felt that persons typically using the market will find the range of new opportunities positive and that this will also have a positive impact on the existing market stalls."

The full planning application can be viewed here.
