Dougie mac is inviting people across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire to dedicate a light to shine in memory of a loved one.

The annual Light Up a Life celebration is one of Douglas Macmillan's flagship seasonal fundraising campaigns.

The event gives the local community the chance to light up the hospice's Christmas tree while remembering their loved ones at Christmas.

Last year, the event raised more than £148,000, helping Dougie Mac to care for adults, young adults and children in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire with a life-limiting illness, along with providing support for their families.

A spokesperson for Dougie mac said: "Each year Dougie Mac's magnificent Christmas tree stands proud in the adult hospice grounds in Barlaston Road, glowing with love and remembrance, each light a tribute to someone deeply missed but never forgotten.

"There is also a beautifully lit tree at Dougie Mac's Children and Young Adult Services at Trentham Lakes, honouring young lives and cherished memories."

Donna Adams, Head of Community Fundraising at Dougie Mac, said: "Light Up a Life brings together our local community as they remember their loved ones.

"It's a really special campaign and always a very special moment when our Christmas tree lights are switched on for the first time, knowing that each one represents someone special.

"This year our trees will shine brightly from 4pm on 5th December which will be followed by a Celebration of Life event at the Victoria Hall in Hanley, on Sunday, 14th December - the official dedication of lights to remember someone cherished.

"It's easy to be a part of our Light Up a Life campaign and anyone can donate and dedicate a light on our tree, even if their loved ones haven't received care from Dougie Mac.

"What's more, everyone who takes part will receive some special mementos to thank them for their support."

Everyone who donates will receive a card and a light on the hospice tree for each person they are remembering, and a wooden Christmas decoration.

The names of the loved ones that contributors are remembering will also be included in Dougie Mac's Book of Memories available to view online and at our Celebration event.

Everyone who donates will also receive two complimentary tickets to Dougie Mac's Celebration of Life at The Victoria Hall on Sunday 14th December (additional tickets are available for £3 per person).

The Book of Memories will be available to view from Friday, 5th December.
