A new indoor dog park is set to open in Stoke-on-Trent, offering dog owners a chance to book private sessions for their pets.

Barks Indoor Park on Campbell Road, Stoke, will open on Friday 26 June – and booking is already open.

The park features two rooms including a main playroom with climbing frames and enrichment areas, as well as a beach room containing sand and splash pools.

Owner, Dionne Townley, explained that the idea for the park came from the difficulties she faced walking her blind 15-year-old Jack Russell, Jack, before he passed away last year.

She said: "Walking our two younger dogs with Jack was really hard work and we would have loved somewhere like this at the time.

"That's where the idea came from originally, but we didn't do much with it until we saw other opening up across the country.

"We said 'right, let's go for it - others have done it and we've got our own ideas and our own way of doing things'. So we went for it."

Dionne hopes that the indoor park will help dog owners whose pets have various needs making it difficult to walk them outdoors.

She added: "It's great for reactive dogs, nervous dogs, dogs that can't be mixed or dogs that can't be walked without a muzzle."

The park offers visitors the chance to book 50 minute private sessions so only the owners' dogs, and dogs that they have safely interacted with in the past will be there at the same time.

The park will contain artificial grass, an agility zone, a ball pit, a beach area, and splash pools for visiting dogs to play in.

As well as being the inspiration for the park's logo, Dionne's late pet Jack will also be memorialised with 'Jack's Corner' - an enrichment area designed for blind dogs.
