A new wellness experience on water is coming to North Staffordshire for the first time this summer.

Derren and Kevin Bimpson decided to launch Serenity Waves after Derren struggled with anxiety following the birth of their son Alby in 2021. After a difficult pregnancy and the pair feeling the pressures of early parenthood, they found themselves looking for solutions online.

They discovered 'sound baths' - a meditative experience where participants are immersed in the sounds of singing bowls, gongs, and chimes - which Kevin says they were both sceptical of at first but soon started to connect with.

The couple decided to start a business of their own - but with a key difference.

They found the addition of water in sound baths increased the benefits felt from each session and they say their business is now the 'biggest floating sound bath company in the UK'. The couple are hosting their first session in North Staffordshire in August at Kidsgrove Sports Centre.

Kevin told Stoke Nub News: "Nine times out of 10, people haven't heard of a floating sound bath.

"We've found is a lot of people are skeptics, which we were at the beginning as well, especially because it's linked to the holistic industry and therefore people who aren't into that industry or have heard much about it tend to just naturally be skeptics, and that's fine.

"We had 38 people for our first session. It sold out very quickly and we are in 12 or 13 venues now"

The pair started posting videos of their floating sound baths on social media and now have 10,000 people following their journey.

The sessions are held at swimming pools with participants floating on inflatable mattresses while immersive sounds are played. The couple say the benefits include "stress reduction, pain relief, improved sleep and increased self-awareness".

Kevin added: "My wife and I had our first child, only child, but throughout the pregnancy and then labour it was extremely overwhelming and my wife more so, she suffered really bad with anxiety.

"We went to the doctors and tried to get it sorted and it didn't really work for her.

"We googled 'healthy alternative for stress relief' and a sound bath came up. We never say that what we do cures anxiety or stress, but it's a healthy alternative.

"For Derren, it connected really well with her, and we went on from there and in December last year, we thought we'll start a business within the wellbeing sector.

"Whilst we were planning it, we read that water intensifies the vibrations, which is what causes the relief, if you like, on all of these different benefits so we added the water benefit."

"Serenity Waves is growing quite quickly, I want to say unexpectedly, but at the same time, we know that people would enjoy it.

"They just have to give us a go."
