More student accommodation is planned for a former police station in Stoke-on-Trent.
Planning permission has already been granted to transform Hanley Police Station, on Bethesda Street, into 161 units of student accommodation, but a new application has been submitted which proposes 218 units.
The application is for the "change of use and extensions to former police station into 218 units of student accommodation, associated recladding of external facades, additional two stories to northern and eastern elevations, associated works and landscaping".
If approved, there would be 24 flats on the lower ground floor, 47 flats on the ground floor and 49 flats on the first, second and third floors.
The lower ground floor would also have amenities such as a lounge, gym and laundry room.
A Design and Access Statement says: "Externally, the tired facade will be upgraded with a more sympathetic brick work in a lighter buff brick laid traditionally with the same brick laid vertically in horizontal banding best between top of window head and floor level the window cills will be lowered to floor level on each floor. Additionally windows will alternate between a more traditional window with chamfered brickwork and a modern 'box' type window that protrudes from the elevation."
A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months, the full planning application can be viewed here.
