A man has been jailed after he ran over a dog before he assaulted and drove into another man in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Uangasane Hange, of Etruria in Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to two-years-and-eight-months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday 15 January after he admitted attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

Staffordshire Police explained that 28-year-old Hange ran over a dog near Cherry Hill Lane, Knutton, in the early hours of Wednesday 14 September 2022.

The dog died at the scene and a fight then broke out between Hange and the dog's owner, another man.

When he walked away, Hange got into his car, a Vauxhall Insignia, and drove towards Silverdale Road before turning the car around and driving back towards Cherry Hill Lane at speed.

Hange drove directly at the victim, causing him to hit the windscreen and fall to the ground.

Detective Constable Mia Joyce, of CID North, said: "Hange showed no remorse before he launched an attack on his victim, who thankfully was not seriously injured.

"When Hange was interviewed in custody, he admitted that he 'used his car as a weapon' and I hope this conviction shows that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

"We are committed to taking robust action against those who use violence against others in Staffordshire."
