Man in hospital and four arrested after 'serious assault' in Stoke-on-Trent

Four people have been arrested after a man was "seriously assaulted" in Stoke-on-Trent this morning (7 May).
Staffordshire Police arrested two women aged 28 and 42 along with two men aged 45 and 46 after a man was assaulted in Smallthorne just before 7:40am on Wednesday.
The man was taken to the Royal Stoke and the 43-year-old woman and the 46-year-old man both remained in custody. The other two suspects have been released under investigation.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at 7.40am this morning to Hanley Road, Sneyd Green, to reports of an injured man. We believe the assault happened in Smallthorne.
"The man was taken to hospital.
"We arrested a 45-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of Section 18 – wounding with intent, and a 28-year-old woman, of no fixed address, on suspicion wound/inflict grievous bodily harm without intent. Both have been released under investigation.
"We also arrested a 46-year-old man, of no fixed address, on suspicion of Section 18 – wounding with intent, and a 42-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion wound/inflict grievous bodily harm without intent. They both remain in custody."
