A man in his 80s has had his licence taken off him after he was caught driving the wrong way on the M6 this morning (8 February).

At around 4.40am, a car was seen travelling the wrong way on the northbound carriageway near junction 14 in Staffordshire.

Police managed to bring the car to a stop and the driver was checked over at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Staffordshire Police have revoked the man's licence following the incident (Staffordshire Police).

Staffordshire Police say: "Whilst there was no intent to endanger other road users and drive on the wrong side of the road, the man's licence was revoked.

"We'd like to thank those who were caught up in the traffic disruption this morning for their patience and understanding. The car was been recovered and the road is back open."
