Man in his 70s dies at scene of Kidsgrove Bank crash

A man in his 70s died at the scene of a crash on Kidsgrove Bank yesterday (24 March).
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4pm yesterday afternoon, following reports of a car that had crashed into a lamppost and found concerned bystanders performing CPR on the driver.
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the air ambulance were called to the collision but despite best efforts the man was confirmed dead at the scene.
Officers from Staffordshire Police are now investigating the incident and appealing for dashcam footage or information from anyone who witnessed the collision.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to a single-vehicle collision on Kidsgrove Bank at around 4.10pm. Sadly, a man in his 70s died at the scene.
"His next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained officers.
"Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now trying to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision."
A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a car that had crashed into a lamppost.
"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene and found bystanders performing CPR on the driver of the car.
"The driver, a man, was in a critical condition and the team of ambulance staff worked together to continue advanced life support.
"Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead a short time later at the scene."
Kidsgrove Bank had been closed by Staffordshire Police while paramedics responded to the accident yesterday.
