Man dies after fire at flat in Stoke-on-Trent

A man has died after a fire at a flat in Stoke-on-Trent this morning.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire on Pool Street in Fenton just before 9am today (29 July) and the man was taken to the Royal Stoke with "serious injuries" after paramedics administered "advanced life support".

It has since been confirmed the man has died in hospital and his family are being supported by specialist officers from Staffordshire Police.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene along with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and the police.

An investigation is now underway to try and establish the cause of the fire.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 9am today (Tuesday 29 July) to a flat on Pool Street, Fenton, following reports of a fire.

"Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has sadly been confirmed deceased.

"His family are being supported by specialist officers and we are working with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire."
