A man who was arrested after a stabbing in Fenton over the weekend has now been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A man in his 60s was left with "serious" injuries on Saturday (16 August) after an attack just before 9:15am outside a home furnishings shop on Victoria Road.

He was taken to the Royal Stoke and has since been discharged while he continues to 'recover from his injuries'.

The second man, in his 20s, who was previously arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and also taken to hospital, has now been detained under the Mental Health Act after being assessed by medical professionals.

Staffordshire Police has confirmed officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and that the investigation is ongoing.

Detective Inspector Meredith, from the criminal investigation department, said: "I can confirm that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

"We're continuing to support the victim in this case, who is now recovering from his injuries.

"The investigation is ongoing."

An ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma team all responded to the incident on Saturday and a man, found with serious injuries, received trauma care at the scene, the West Midlands Ambulance Service said in a statement.

Police taped off an area surrounding a bench outside a home furnishings shop on Victoria Road shortly after the incident.
