Major Stoke-on-Trent road closed due to 'gas leak'

More misery is expected for drivers as a part of a major Stoke-on-Trent road is set to be closed until after Easter due to an "urgent gas leak".
Stoke Road, in Stoke, will be closed in one direction, towards Hanley, while Cadent works to fix the gas leak under the road.
The works, under the railway bridge at the junction for Vernon Road, were causing some issues this morning as drivers tried to navigate around the closure to find the correct diversion.
A statement from Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "Cadent is working hard to fix an urgent gas leak on Stoke Road (between Hartshill Road and A500).
"This means a lane closure is in place until Wednesday 23 April.
"Diversions are set up, but please plan for a little extra travel time, especially when accessing Stoke-on-Trent station via the back entrance."
Rail replacement buses were also finding it challenging to navigate around the queuing cars as they tried to drop passengers off at the rear car park of Stoke-on-Trent Railway Station.

Cadent said: "Cadent are carrying out Emergency gas repair works.
"These repairs can take time to resolve, but this is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers."
Station Road and College Road also remain closed.
