A major coffee shop chain has submitted plans for a brand-new branch in Stoke-on-Trent.

Starbucks wants to open a new store off James Brindley Way, next to the new petrol station which opened earlier this year.

ELG Planning submitted a planning application for the "erection of a drive thru coffee shop (Class E) and EV charging hub with access, car and cycle parking, hard and soft landscaping, loading bay and associated works" this week.

A total of 17 parking spaces are proposed, as well as two disabled spaces and 18 EV charging bays served by nine ultra-fast charging units.

A planning statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "The site has stood vacant for several decades with areas of rough grass, bare ground and scrub vegetation having formed.

"However, the site has been subject to levelling and remediation works and has most recently been used as a site compound associated with the erection of a petrol filling station on the adjoining parcel of land.

The proposals represent significant capital investment in the area and will generate a number of additional job opportunities for local people in both the operational and construction phases development.

"The proposed drive-thru unit will generate a number of opportunities across a range of roles with flexible shift patterns offered, with the end operator offering training and career development opportunities.

The new branch would be located next to the new BP petrol station which opened earlier this year (Nub News).

"The proposed drive-thru unit will occupy a highly prominent location lying on a main arterial route close to established commercial and employment uses to the north of the main urban area and has therefore been identified as a prime location for new drive-thru facilities to complement the range of established uses within the immediate locality."

The full planning application can be viewed here.
