Work to install four padel courts in Stoke-on-Trent has officially begun.

Powerleague, provider of commercial small-sided football in the UK, has officially started installing the courts at its Stoke Trentham Lakes site following a £815,000 investment.

The new additions will see the club expand on its existing facilities, including five- and seven-a-side football pitches, with the introduction of four canopied padel courts.

Powerleague said this marks a significant step in their mission to make padel, one of the world's fastest-growing sports, accessible to more communities across the UK.

The padel courts are expected to open in February.

John Gillespie, Chief Executive Officer at Powerleague, said: "We're really excited to be bringing padel to our Stoke Trentham Lakes club, giving more people the chance to try out this fantastic sport.

"This investment shows our commitment to offering a wider range of activities and creating more ways for people to stay healthy and connected in their communities.

"We've seen the positive impact that being active can have, and padel's social side makes it a great addition. We can't wait to welcome everyone to the new courts."

The new padel courts will offer the opportunity for beginners and experienced players to book 60 and 90 minute sessions.

There will also be introductory padel lessons and social events on offer with prices for courts starting from £6.50 per person.

The launch in Stoke is part of Powerleague's wider £14 million investment into padel across the UK, following openings in Manchester, Romford, Birmingham, Portobello and Sighthill this year.

Powerleague's strategic investment reflects the rise of padel in the UK.

According to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the number of courts has grown from 150 to more than 1,000 in just four years, with player numbers increasing from 89,000 to 129,000, expected to reach 400,000 by the end of 2026.

Bookings will be available via the Playtomic app, with more information on launch events and court availability on the Powerleague website here
