A carer was caught working in the UK illegally after a dementia patient became distressed and started to scream.

Turimuye Ndisiro used false identification to secure a job with a care agency in Stoke-on-Trent.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the 27-year old, who is originally from Namibia, used a green corridor to claim temporary asylum in the UK after fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Once he arrived in the country he applied for a visa but the court heard that he became frustrated in the delay. He then secured a fake ID in order to get work and earn money. Ndisiro passed his DBS and started work on January 3.

However, four months later neighbour became alarmed when hearing a dementia patient in distress. Staffordshire Police were then made aware his next shift would be on April 14. Once he arrived, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered identification using another name.

The court heard police asked Ndisiro what his name was and he gave the fake name.

Ndisiro began working illegally in Stoke in January 2023 (LDRS).

Prosecutor Zaine Riaz said: "When he arrived in the country he applied for a visa, which is still pending. He became frustrated in the delay and started looking for work even though he was not able.

"Somebody helped him get false identification, these documents stated he had indefinite leave and right to work."

The court heard Ndisiro worked at the care agency for four months between January and April and earned around £4,000. The defendant, formerly of Parkhouse Street, Hanley, but now of Tredworth, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud by false representation.

Alan Dawson, mitigating, said: "He currently remains in the UK and not in receipt of benefits as he is not able to claim them. He has no income at this time, he has no health issues so he can carry out unpaid work."

Magistrates ordered Ndisiro to pay £204 made up of £90 costs and £114 victims surcharge which will be paid back at £10 a fortnight. The court also imposed a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation activity days and 100 hours of unpaid work.
