Stoke's popular family event, 'Six Towns Carnival' is set to return to Hanley Park on Sunday 9 July, aiming to celebrate "harmony and inclusion".

With costumes provided by Shademakers UK and Preston Carnival, volunteer performers will celebrate 75 years since the Windrush generation arrived in the UK with a glittering parade on the theme of 'Sunday Best'.

The parade starts at 3pm and will be led by local musician, Danny Shaw.

There will also be music throughout the day on the Main Stage, stalls and free craft activities, art workshops led by Deborah Rogers of the Cultural Sisters, circus performances and even a free samba drumming workshop.

Sarah Chevolleau, Event Director and Director of SABLE, said: "I used to go to Six Towns Carnival as a child growing up in Stoke when my Dad was on the organizing committee.

"Those childhood memories are full of joy, and are shared with many others who attended as children.

"That is one of the many wonderful qualities of the carnival, it is a family focused and friendly event.

Performers will celebrate 75 years since the Windrush generation arrived in the UK (Six Towns Carnival).

"From the international cuisine and street food to the fair rides to the artistry and entertainment, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy and leave with lasting cheerful memories.

"With the events of the past few years, moving through pandemic grief, extremes in cost of living, and the aggravated racial tensions that come at times of economic crisis, it is more vital now than ever to give hope to our city.

"Sunday's Carnival will be a show of harmony and inclusion as well as a celebration of the community that has been in Stoke-On-Trent for over 70 years, since the Windrush generation.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone, all ages, races and backgrounds, on Sunday."

The event organisers ask families to plan their travel to avoid on-street parking around Hanley Park. There is paid parking available at Hinde Street Car Park and Stoke College Car Park, a short walk away in Hanley, or please travel by public transport.

This event is a family-focused event with no alcohol for sale and alcohol consumption is discouraged by the organisers.
