Hanley Bus Station temporarily closed for light fitting repair
By Liana Snape 4th Jun 2026
Hanley Bus Station has been closed as a precaution while light fittings are repaired.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council made the decision after a light fitting fell from the roof earlier today.
It is believed that it may have been affected by recent extreme variations in temperature.
The council immediately inspected the site and has decided to close the bus station in order to carry out repair works and ensure all light fittings are safe.
As a result, the newsagent located within the bus station is also closed.
The council explained that the work is being prioritised and will be carried out today, overnight and tomorrow. They aim to reopen the bus station over the weekend.
Passengers can still travel as normal. Bus services will continue to operate, with stops temporarily relocated nearby.
A spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "We acted quickly to assess the site as soon as the problem emerged.
"As always, public safety is our number one priority and we have closed the station in order for necessary work to be carried out as quickly as possible.
"We apologise for any inconvenience."
