Fresh plans submitted to convert former NHS clinic in Stoke-on-Trent into flats
Fresh plans to convert a former city centre walk in clinic into flats have come forward – just days after a previous application was rejected.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council refused permission for the change of use of parts of the Stafford Street property into 15 self-contained apartments at the start of July.
The decision notice stated: "Insufficient information has been submitted with the application relating to noise impacts, and the Local Planning Authority is not able to fully and adequately assess the impacts of noise from commercial premises on the future occupiers of the development. The submitted plans show external alterations to the existing building, including the installation of a number of new openings to serve the proposed apartments, however such works cannot be considered under this prior approval application, and have not been granted planning permission."
The former Hanley Primary Care Access Hub was located at the site. But it was closed in 2022, in a move that saved NHS £1.2 million a year, as commissioners believed it was no longer needed.
A new application has now been submitted for the conversion of the building, which has been vacant for two years, into 15 residential units. The latest proposals include a noise impact assessment.
The document stated: "It is proposed to convert parts of the existing building at 69 – 71 Stafford Street, Hanley into residential flats. There are existing commercial units at ground and lower ground floor levels which will be retained."
