A former Labour councillor in the Staffordshire Moorlands has announced that he has joined the Green Party.
Connor Brady, who represents Biddulph East on Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Biddulph Town Council, resigned his Labour Party membership in May 2024.
Cllr Brady said: "Since leaving the Labour Party in May last year, this Government have moved even further away from the values I believe in.
"They remain an active participant in the genocide taking place in Gaza despite the horrors being perpetrated by the Israeli Government continuing daily.
"They are attacking the disabled and unwell through desperate cuts to benefits which will decimate thousands, and they continue to erode transgender rights with pride, whilst doing almost nothing to fix this broken country.
"In Britain, there is a class war being waged by the billionaires and big business to ensure the rich get richer whilst our public services crumble and thousands more children are pushed into poverty.
"The solution to that is not to demonise those who are different and attack the most vulnerable.
"In my view, we should make the millionaires, billionaires, and biggest businesses pay their fair share to build a country where no child goes hungry, where young people can afford to buy a home, where elderly people do not live in poverty, and where we all have full human rights and freedom of speech."
Following the announcement, Cllr Brady is now the second Green Party district councillor in the Staffordshire Moorlands alongside Cllr Jonathan Kempster who represents Manifold.

He added: "The Green Party is clearly the political party which can make this happen under the leadership of Zack Polanski.
"They have a proud tradition of fighting for the climate and green spaces, which is so important in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
"They also stand for economic and social justice, overturning the decades of austerity which have decimated our infrastructure, NHS, policing, and education.
"No other party is offering real solutions to the crises facing this country.
"Now is the time for bold action to tax the wealthiest and use that money to invest in rebuilding this country for the many.
"I am proud to have always stood by my principles, and I will continue to fight for Biddulph as a Green Councillor."
