Plans to transform a vacant shop in Hanley into new self-storage units and parking have been given the green light by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Go Outdoors, on New Hall Street in Hanley, has been vacant since the store relocated to Festival Retail Park in 2019.

Plans have been approved for the 0.61 hectares site to be transformed into self-storage units with associated parking.

The existing car parks on the ground and first floor level will retain their use whilst the basement and second floor will become storage units.

The site currently has space for 487 cars but the applicant, Austringer Capital Limited, will remove 221 of these spaces.

The car park will be strictly for users of the self-storage facility and there will be a security based access system so only customers can access the site.

No exterior works are planned for the site and all work will take place internally (Nub News).

The case officer concluded that the plans "would be appropriate for this location and would revelop a challenging site which has been vacant within the city centre for a prolonged period of time"
