Former Hanley library set to become ten-storey block of flats

The former library on Bethesda Street, in Hanley, is set to become a brand-new ten-storey block of flats. 

The library opened in December 1970 and closed last month ahead of services being relocated to Two Smithfield. 

Plans have now been submitted to build an additional four storeys on the building and convert it into a block of flats. 

The ground and upper floors will become 106 flats - 89 one-bedroom, 13 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom - and the basement will become a gym, restaurant and nursery for residents. 

The proposals include over 100 flats, a gym, restaurant and nursery (Wood Goldstraw Yorath).

The unit currently has 25 parking spaces but as part of the plans, 50 cycle spaces and two EV charging points will also be installed.
