Vacant land in Tunstall that has become a target for antisocial behaviour and fly tipping could become a storage site.

Up to 23 storage units and an office are earmarked for the site off Broomhill Street if plans put forward to Stoke-on-Trent City Council are given the green light.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said proposals for residential development on the land had previously been approved. A two-storey apartment block containing eight flats was granted permission in 2007 and was superseded by plans for two homes and a bungalow in 2019.

The statement added: "The proposed development would be on a previously developed site (and) the surrounding area is predominantly residential. The self storage units will provide much needed storage accommodation in Stoke-on-Trent.

The land has recently become a target for antisocial behaviour and fly tipping (Google).

"The building layout, car parking, access and position of the building largely mirror the plans of the previously approved developments. In terms of the external appearance, the storage units would have a typically traditional appearance, whilst still reflecting its residential surroundings by way of facing brickwork walls.

"The site has been neglected for a number of years due to national economic constraints and as such is in a very poor condition. The site has been a target for vandalism, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour (and) has been identified as requiring immediate development by local councillors.

"It is important to note that the surrounding dwellings and buildings are not considered to be of any historic or architectural quality. The proposal will still be considered as a vast visual improvement to the site, which in its current form detracts from the quality of the area."
