Some children across Stoke on Trent will get an extra day off school this term due to Thursday's General Election.

Hillside Primary School in Baddeley Green and Ash Green Primary Academy in Trentham are among schools in the area set to become polling stations for the day, meaning they will be closed to pupils.

In total, nine schools across the city will be hosting polling stations. But not all will have to close as a result, if arrangements can be made to keep the polling station separate from places where normal school activity is taking place.

There has been a move away from using schools as polling stations in recent years however. A Stoke-on-Trent City Council report on a polling station review said: "There has been and continues to be public and school concern over the use of schools as polling stations due to issues of security and disruption to education, therefore where possible the use of schools has been avoided."

Ormiston Meridian Academy is one school which will be a polling station on Thursday (Nub News).
