Five Stoke businesses were awarded a five-star food hygiene rating last month - Nub News investigates which ones they are.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business (FSA).

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of 1 August:

  • Pit Stop, Oldmill Street, Stoke, was last inspected on 9 July
  • Rotisserie, Trentham Retail Village was last inspected on 2 July

Rotisserie was awarded a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection on 2 July (Google).

  • Wok 'n' Roll Chinese, Liverpool Road, was last inspected on 8 July
  • Fenton Service Station, King Street was last inspected on 3 July
  • Indi Club, Ralph Drive, Sneyd Green was last inspected on 12 July

Indi Club, on Ralph Drive, was last inspected on 8 July (Google).

A food safety officer from Stoke-on-Trent City Council inspected the Stoke businesses to check that they were following food hygiene law so that the food was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

  • How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
  • How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

The five listed Stoke businesses were rated five-star based on all these checks.
