Five people have been arrested in Stoke-on-Trent after after officers responded to a report of a "fight with weapons".

Staffordshire Police was called to Town Road, Hanley, shortly before 4.50pm on Wednesday (16 September) following a report of a large group of people fighting in the street.

The police force says one of the people was reportedly holding an axe and another was holding a piece of wood.

Armed officers were sent to the scene and carried out enquiries, which lead to the arrest of five people at the scene:

• A 50-year-old man, of no fixed address, on suspicion of affray and assault by beating
• A 41-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of affray
• A 36-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of affray
• A 33-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of affray
• A 33-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of affray.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "All five will be questioned in custody.

"No serious injuries were reported.

"Officers searched an address in the area and seized an axe."
