Firefighters tackled a house fire in Tunstall yesterday (16 January) involving a brand-new microwave.

Crews were called to an address near America Street just after 6pm yesterday following reports of a fire.

The fire had been extinguished on arrival and firefighters ventilated the building to clear excess smoke.

A man who was inside the home was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation (Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service).

The fire was later deemed to be caused by a cooker hob that was accidentally turned on. A new microwave, which was still in a box, was on top of the hob and caught fire as a result.

A man, who was inside the home, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
