Crews tackle fire at North Stafford Hotel site in Stoke

The fire service responded to a fire at the North Stafford Hotel in Stoke yesterday evening.
Smoke was seen rising across Station Road and Leek Road in Stoke shortly after 10pm on Wednesday (23 July) after a fire started outside, close to the rear of the building.
The fire appears not to have caused major damage to the main building, and Stoke Nub News understands a stack of wooden doors was alight, but this is yet to be confirmed. There have not been reports of any injuries at this stage.
The North Stafford Hotel, on Station Road, is currently empty as it is undergoing a refurbishment and it has previously been used as accommodation for people seeking asylum in the UK.
Officers from Staffordshire Police and the gas company Cadent were also at the scene.
Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform, which was not needed, were seen at the hotel site.
It is not currently known how the fire started and Stoke Nub News has approached Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and Staffordshire Police for a statement about the incident.
