Empty train carriage fire in Stoke-on-Trent was 'deliberate'

A fire which engulfed an empty train carriage over the weekend was caused deliberately.
The fire service was called out to a fire off Shelton New Road near the railway track between Shelton and Cliffe Vale on Friday 1 August at 10:15pm.
No one was reported injured and the flames were brought under control in around half an hour. The incident has now been left with British Transport Police.
It follows a similar incident at the same location on Saturday 19 July where a huge fire engulfed derelict train carriages.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to land off Cemetery Road, Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent at 10.15pm on Friday (1 August) following reports of a fire.
"Three appliances attended the scene and used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish an empty railway carriage which was well alight.
"Nobody was reported injured.
"Firefighters deemed the cause to be deliberate and the incident was left with colleagues from British Transport Police."
British Transport Police was approached for comment but is yet to respond.
