Dramatic pictures of overnight waste fire in Stoke-on-Trent as crews remain on scene

An investigation has begun into the cause of a waste fire at an industrial estate in Stoke-on-Trent as crews remain on scene.

Stoke Nub News reported this morning that fire crews were called to a business premises on Chemical Lane close to the Longbridge Hayes industrial estate at 11:45pm on Tuesday evening and a small section of the road remains closed this afternoon.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue says crews are continuing to dampen down the fire using an aerial ladder platform while an investigation begins into the cause.

There have been no reports of injuries and residents living nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed "as a precaution".

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We are still at the scene of a large waste fire in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, today (Wednesday 4 June).

"Firefighters were called to a business premises on Chemical Lane, Longport, at around 11.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 June).

"Our colleagues from Staffordshire Police are also in attendance to support road closures. A small section of Chemical Lane remains closed to traffic.

No injuries have been reported. (SFARS)

"Our aerial ladder platform is still on scene dampening down.

"No injuries have been reported.

"Residents living within the area are advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.

"We are working with fire investigation colleagues to determine the cause and crews are working hard to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."
