Death of man in Newcastle town centre 'not being treated as suspicious'

The death of a man in Newcastle town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning (14 July) is not being treated as suspicious, say Staffordshire Police.

Police and paramedics were called to Ironmarket, Newcastle-under-Lyme, at around 2am on Sunday 14 July.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene to find police providing first aid to a man who had sustained a serious injury.

"The team of ambulance staff worked quickly to administer emergency care to the man who was in a critical condition before they conveyed him on blue lights to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further trauma care. Sadly the man died a short time later in hospital."

The man was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later (West Midlands Ambulance Service).

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police added that the man was in his 30s and the serious injury was to his leg.

The force said: "His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner."
