Stoke-on-Trent City Council is set to launch a new weekly food waste recycling service offered in line with national government legislation.
Households across the city are being encouraged to sign up to the service due to begin next Spring.
The council hopes that it will make it easier for residents to recycle food waste separately, reduce the amount going into general waste and cut the city's carbon emissions.
The rollout supports the government's national waste strategy, which requires local authorities to introduce weekly food waste collections.
Cllr Amjid Wazir OBE, cabinet member for environment, sustainability and enforcement at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "This is a big step forward in how we manage waste across the city.
"By recycling food waste, we can transform leftovers into something useful, such as energy or compost, rather than disposing of it as general waste.
"We're asking residents to let us know if they'd like to take part, so we can make sure the rollout is delivered smoothly and efficiently across Stoke-on-Trent."
The weekly food waste collection scheme is due to come into effect on Monday 30 March 2026.
An online form open for households to register their interest can be found on the Stoke-on-Trent City Council website here.
The information gathered in the survey will help shape how the service is introduced across the city and ensure it runs efficiently and cost-effectively.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has said that further details will be shared as the scheme progresses.
