Stoke-on-Trent City Council are launching a crackdown on dilapidated buildings on a Stoke-on-Trent high street.

The council have warned that failure to comply with formal notices could result in formal enforcement action.

In total 22 enforcement notices have been issued to property owners in the Tower Square Conservation Area in Tunstall over the conditions of the buildings. Now the owners have four months to comply with the notices.

Some of the buildings with notices to improve are the old Subway to the Admiral casino, and the old Natwest bank. Some of the affected buildings on High Street already have work underway to prevent possible enforcement action.

A total of 22 enforcement notices have been issued to property owners (Nub News).

Shopper Derek Hill said: "It's a real shame because some of the buildings would look wonderful if they were all done up. I'm happy to hear that the council is doing something. It's long overdue."

Shirley Johnson added: "We need some investment in Tunstall. What would investors say if they came to Tunstall. What they need to do is make it look nice, give people some pride again and that would encourage investment."

Councillor Chris Robinson, cabinet member for housing and planning, said: "We can confirm that 22 enforcement cases have been registered with the council, in relation to the dilapidated condition of various properties in Tunstall High Street which are located within the Tower Square Conservation Area.

"All of the properties in question have been written to in order to engage and encourage the owners to tidy their properties where required and identified, in line with our commitment to working together to clean up our city and our communities. If they fail to do so we will consider taking formal enforcement action."
