A man from Cheadle who sexually assaulted a woman whilst she was sleeping has been jailed.

Mark Janke, 57, assaulted the victim whilst they were both inside a house in Cheadle back in January 2021.

The victim woke up when it happened and later reported it to police.

Janke denied what happened but following a trial at Stafford Crown Court, a jury found him guilty of two counts of sexual assault of a female.

On Tuesday 4 June, Janke was sentenced to five years behind bars (Nub News).

On Tuesday (4 June), he was sentenced to five years behind bars, placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and given an indefinite restraining order against the survivor.

Dectective Sergeant Daniel Martin, who is a Rape and Serious Sexual Assault (RASSO) officer, said: "We've worked hard to support the survivor throughout this investigation and I'm pleased that the outcome has given her some form of closure.

"I'd like to recognise her for the bravery she showed in coming forward and telling us what happened.

"I hope this sends a clear message to any survivors of sexual offences that you will be listened to by officers who are passionate about delivering justice. No matter how recent the offences may have been, we will seek the toughest punishment possible for those guilty of sexual crimes."
