A man has been arrested after police found an estimated £4,000-worth of cannabis after pursuing a car in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Officers tried to pull over a black Mercedes shortly after 12am on Saturday (11 January) in the area, but it failed to stop and drove away.

Police followed the car until it came to a stop; two people got out and tried to run away.

Police found a large amount of cannabis in the car (Staffordshire Police).

Officers caught one of the men on Norwich Place and detained him. They searched the car and found a large amount of cannabis, believed to be worth around £4,000.

A 20-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply cannabis, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
