A burglar who broke into a Stoke-on-Trent home and stole a car has been jailed for nearly three years.

Geraldine Grocott, 39, broke into a home near Camp Road in Smallthorne on 13 July, where she stole perfume, cash and car keys before making off in the Toyota parked outside.

The victim realised he had been burgled when he woke up later that morning and noticed his car, worth an estimated £12,000, was missing.

Grocott was linked to the burglary through forensic evidence and she was charged with the offences before pleading guilty.

The 39-year-old was sentenced to two years and ten months behind bars at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday 12 September.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "The sentencing comes as part of our ongoing proactive commitment to tackling burglary across Staffordshire, which has reduced by 27 per cent in the last 12 months (August 2024 to August 2025) compared to the year before.

"We're determined to keep working hard, night and day, to go after those responsible for this type of crime in local communities."
