A brand-new cake and coffee shop is set to open on a busy Stoke-on-Trent street after plans were approved by the city council.

31 Twigg Street, in Bucknall, is currently a vacant property but plans were submitted in October to transform the premises into a cake and coffee shop.

The ground floor will become the new eatery whilst the first floor will become a one-bedroom flat.

The cafe area will comprise a store, staff room, kitchen and waiting/dining area and will create two new jobs - one full-time and one part-time.

No objections were received to the plans and the highways department spoke out in support, saying: "There is some limited space on the road to allow for parking and servicing to take place.

"In addition, there are bus stop facilities in the immediate vicinity allowing for opportunities to travel to and from the site by public transport and there are large residential communities in easy walking distance of the site, making it sustainable and accessible."

The brand-new eatery will open on Twigg Street in Bucknall (Google).

The plans were granted permission by Stoke-on-Trent City Council on 7 December.

An Officer's Report, prepared by the council, stated: "There is considered to be limited impact on the surrounding highway network despite the intensification of use provided by this change of use.

"The operation as a predominantly eating in establishment as a cafe with the option for customers to buy food and drink to takeaway would be similar to those within the locality.

"On balance, it is considered that there would therefore be limited impacts taking into account the sustainable location with good access to alternative modes of transport."
