A popular community takeaway in Stoke-on-Trent is aiming to help all families in the city.

Arfan Mohammed, owner of Sizzers Fast Food in Abbey Hulton, has been delivering 'pensioner packs' to vulnerable residents in Stoke-on-Trent for many years, but he has now expanded his mission to help families too.

Arfan told Nub News: "I've had a lot of messages from families as well as pensioners so I reflected and thought about what exactly I can do to help.

"The community supports me so I want to support them, I'm not just a business, I'm a community takeaway that wants to give back.

Arfan is now in contact with over 20 community groups across Stoke-on-Trent and will be donating food to them.

He continued: "This is so that when people contact me, I can forward them to the relevant community group and everyone has a point of contact near where they live.

"I have customers from all over the city, we deliver to most postcodes, so I want to help everyone in the community but it's also important to me to distribute it evenly.

"The reason I'm doing this is because people use me so I want their money to be put back into the community - people have given me so much so it's only right that I give back.

"It's also important because although people have ordered from me previously, they now need help so it's not about business, when they are in need I will help them.

"I want my customers to know I'm there for them because we support each other."

Arfan is a dedicated Muslim and his faith teaches him to help others but he says "faith and religion should not be a barrier.

Nub News recently caught up with Arfan to hear about his work - watch the full interview on our Facebook page (Nub News).

"Our aim is to have an amazing city in Stoke-on-Trent, where we all help each other. My faith teaches me to help everyone, no matter what faith or religion.

"People all over the country have messaged me saying that they wish there was something similar in their community - it's encouraging other people to do the same and we're proud to have started it in Stoke-on-Trent."

Sizzlers is now in contact with community groups in areas across Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area, including Biddulph, Meir, Brown Edge, Northwood, Penkhill, Newcastle, Chesterton, Fenton, Bentilee, Endon, Burslem and Kidsgrove.

The popular business also donates 25p from every order to a fund for Arfan to buy and distribute food amongst community groups.

If it wasn't for sponsors like Sizzlers, our news site would not be possible - thank you.
