A Staffordshire care home resident's 'wish' came true when he took part in a Stoke City FC stadium tour.

Shoemaker Place resident and lifelong Stoke City supporter, Keith, was taken on a tour of the Bet365 stadium earlier this month as part of the Borough Care Group's Residents' Wish Initiative.

Staff from the Stone care home accompanied the 86-year-old football fan to Stoke-on-Trent where he received a tour of the stadium including the changing rooms, board room and dugout before going pitch side.

Keith - who still has his ticket counterfoil from the League Cup Final at Wembley in 1972 when Stoke City beat Chelsea 2-1 – said he "thoroughly enjoyed the morning".

Sharon Parkes, Customer Relationship Manager at Shoemaker Place, said: "At Shoemaker Place, person-centred care is at the heart of everything we do.

"Our Residents' Wish Initiative is all about making meaningful moments happen and helping residents continue to enjoy the hobbies, interests and experiences that are important to them."

Sharon added: "Seeing Keith's smile throughout the experience was truly wonderful, and we are incredibly grateful to Anthony Emerson and Courtney Allerton at Stoke City Football Club for helping us make his wish come true.

"Moments like these create lasting memories and have a positive impact on wellbeing, confidence and happiness."

After the tour, Keith left with a Stoke City scarf which he has proudly displayed in his room at Shoemaker Place.

Stoke City has also offered him tickets to a match of his choice which he will be attending with his brother and nephew and "can't wait" to relive the memories.
