A charity 'superstore' in Stoke-on-Trent has moved to a new location in The Potteries Shopping Centre.

Emmaus North Staffs has officially reopened its large Hanley charity shop in a new location on the main floor of The Potteries Shopping Centre.

The store - located at the former Debenhams site - contains a wide variety of second-hand furniture as well as household items, pre-loved fashion, second-hand books and toys.

A spokesperson for Emmaus North Staffs said: "If you love charity shopping or finding unique pieces for your home, you'll love our Emmaus Charity Superstore.

"100 per cent of the funds raised at this charity shop are used to support local people and families who experience poverty and those at risk of homelessness.

"Our longer-term goal is to open a new Emmaus community to directly support people who experience homelessness."

The move comes after the store opened on the lower floor of the shopping centre in June.

The opening was marked by an opening ceremony featuring a performance by the Staffordshire Choir Association and a visit from the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Joan Bell.

A Potteries Centre spokesperson previously said: "Emmaus North Staffs does incredible work supporting the local area, and we are proud to have them as part of our retail community.

"Their presence not only enhances our offer but also brings a meaningful social impact, giving visitors the opportunity to shop with purpose.

Emmaus North Staffs is a charity working to end furniture poverty in the region.

They partner with housing associations supplying furniture and white goods to those setting up home, at no cost to the tenants aside from a small delivery fee.

In 2022, the charity launched Beds for Kids, an ongoing campaign where brand-new beds, mattresses and bedding are providing to families whose children do not have a bed of their own.

Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs, John Webbe, said: "The numbers are quite staggering with an estimated 9,000 children in Stoke-on-Trent alone who do not have a bed of their own.

"Since launching the campaign we have delivered more than 500 brand new bed bundles to local families. This is an issue which is not going away and as a charity we aim to do all that we can.

"Each bed bundle costs £200 and we have to raise funds for this ourselves and rely heavily on donations and sales from our superstore."
