A North Staffordshire pub is supporting a charity football match for The Wendy Jones Trust this week.

The Travellers Rest at Stanley will be the shirt sponsor for the match at Kidsgrove Athletic on 10 August in memory of Simon Harrison who supported his sister's trust at previous charity matches to raise money for the trust before his death.

Leek Building Society has also sponsored the event and all players have agreed to donate £20.

The fundraiser has already surpassed last year's total of £1,141 by over £600.

The pub told customers on social media: "We are so proud to be sponsoring the shirts for the upcoming charity football match in memory of Simon Harrison, raising money for The Wendy Jones Trust.

"On Sunday 10th August at 2pm at Kidsgrove Athletic Football Club, some of our staff will be playing in the charity game and it would be amazing if you could come down and cheer them on!"

Wendy Jones, who dedicated her time to helping hundreds of children through her volunteer work at FC Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent, passed away in 2023.

In her memory, friends and family established the Wendy Jones Trust to continue her legacy by offering support to struggling families across the city.

The Travellers Rest at Stanley is a traditional country pub on Tompkin Road serving food and drink seven days a week. With a welcoming atmosphere and comfortable interior, you'll find the atmosphere warm and friendly with an ever-present gentle hum of activity.
