Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is a blood-soaked love letter to VHS slashers and summer camp horror.

After years of slapdash sequels, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over for resurrection to an enthusiastic, cerebral young director (Hannah Einbinder) – who credits the first film with her own queer awakening. But fantasy and reality collide when she visits Billy, the original film's star, now a mysterious recluse and the two women fall into a world of fear, desire and delirium.

Jane Schoenbrun follows up their previous feature, I Saw the TV Glow, with this audacious ride into the world of cult horror films, sensitively exploring the nuances of how the media we consume shapes our identity, all in a playful ode to the slasher flick.

It is also a visual feast, popping with nostalgia and more than a small helping of gore.

Hacks star Hannah Einbinder shares a sparkling chemistry with Gillian Anderson, who is fabulous as the Norma Desmond-esque Billy.
