A Newcastle-under-Lyme woman - and former therapies instructor at a Staffordshire NHS Trust - has achieved her childhood "dream" of becoming a professional footballer.

Beth Roberts, a former senior therapies technical instructor, balanced her full-time role at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) with studying for a physiotherapy degree and pursuing her football career.

After helping Wolves Women secure promotion to Women's Super League 2, the 25-year-old has now made her professional debut against Newcastle United.

"It was always my dream," Beth said.

"Some of my earliest memories are of being in the garden with my dad and brothers, kicking a ball around and imagining what might be possible.

"As the women's game has grown, that dream started to feel more real. I'm proud of what I've achieved, but I wouldn't be where I am without the support of my family."

As well as football, Beth developed a passion for physiotherapy while working at UHNM and studying for her degree.

She said: "My own experiences of recovering from injury inspired me to pursue physiotherapy.

"I know how much it means to get back to doing the things you love and being able to support people through that journey is incredibly rewarding.

"Seeing the difference you can make to someone's recovery is what I enjoy most."

Beth joined Bradwell Belles aged nine before progressing through Stoke City's academy and joining Wolves.

She added: "Don't put pressure on yourself to know exactly what you want to do straight away, it's all a journey.

"Look out for opportunities and get experience in things you're passionate about because you never know where they might lead."
