Work is beginning this week to install a new zebra crossing, speed bumps and other measures designed to improve safety on a Stoke-on-Trent road.

The safety improvements to Colclough Lane in Goldenhill are designed to make it safer for children and families walking to St Joseph's Catholic Academy on Mobberley Road.

The scheme, which will take around five weeks to complete, involves a new zebra crossing over Colclough Lane close to the turning for Mobberley Road, which will also become a raised junction to help slow down traffic.

There will also be additional bollards and road markings to prevent dangerous parking that reduces visibility for pedestrians and drivers.

A Stoke-on-Trent City Council spokesperson said: "We're thrilled to share plans for the Colclough Lane Highway Safety Scheme.

"Following consultation in May we have now commenced to the construction phase.

"Works will begin 28th July and will last for approximately 5 weeks.

"We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to improve local roads and infrastructure."
