A 34-year-old woman has been charged after an "unattended" private ambulance was taken and recovered in Stoke-on-Trent.

Kirsty Sharman, of Tunstall, has been charged with taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

It comes after Staffordshire Police responded to reports that a BMW X5, which was marked and being used as a private ambulance, was stolen with keys on Parsonage Street.

The car was later found in the Harriseahead area.

A spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent Police said: "Sharman has been bailed and is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 12 March."
