A Cheshire woman has been charged following reports of assault and controlling behaviour offences near Leek.

Melanie Meigh, 23, of Macclesfield, has been charged with two counts of intentional strangulation and one count of threats to kill, wilfully making a false statement on oath, engaging in controlling / coercive behaviour and theft from the person of another.

It comes as part of a Staffordshire Police investigation into reports of assault and controlling behaviour offences near the Leek area in July and August this year.

Meigh appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Friday (7 August).

She has been bailed ahead of her next appearance due at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 7 September.
