Firefighters remain at the scene of a wildfire in Stoke-on-Trent after working 'through the night' to extinguish the fire.

It comes after Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday 9 August) to Park Hall Country Park, off Park Hall Road, following reports of smoke coming from the area.

The service said eight appliances and two 4x4 rangers attended the scene where crews used four hose reel jets and a wildfire hose to extinguish the fire.

The fire involved approximately 100 metres by 100 metres of scrubland and grassland.

Today (Monday 10 August), two crews remain at the scene to monitor and dampen down any hotspots.

Head of Operations, Martin Weaver, said: "Crews have worked through the night to extinguish pockets of fire and further resources will be going to the scene today.

"The demand we have faced across Staffordshire this summer has been unprecedented, and while we still need to determine the cause of this fire, we'd ask people to follow the safety advice on our website to help prevent wildfires from happening in your area.

"To allow access for our fire appliances, we are asking people to not travel along Hulme Road, between the village and Park Hall Road."
