Vacant industrial workshop in Stoke-on-Trent could be converted into apartments

A vacant industrial workshop in Longton could be transformed into living space.
Seven one-bedroom apartments are proposed as part of the change of use application for the two-storey workshop at Anchor Place.
A planning statement submitted as part of the application to Stoke-on-Trent City Council said the L-shaped building was believed to date back to the Victorian period. But parts of the structure were now "of unsightly appearance, having fallen into dereliction over time."
The statement added: "The site is located on the northern outskirts of Longton town centre, just off Anchor Road (B5039), however it is not in any designated Conservation Area.
"It is not nationally nor locally listed, and it is not the subject of any other protective designation or special status which may be relevant to this application.
"An internal inspection of the building confirms that it has been disused for some time. In particular, the upper floor is in unkempt condition, having not been upgraded, altered or maintained to any notable standard in some years.
"It is proposed to undertake extensive renovations to the interior of the building, to provide a total of seven residential apartments, spread across its two floors.
"Whilst the proposal would require internal works to restore, upgrade and reconfigure the existing floor space, no external building works or material elevational changes would be required in order to implement the proposed new use.
"Externally, it is proposed to clear, repair and restore the existing courtyard area, in order to provide both external amenity areas and parking spaces. The appearance of the building, and also the wider site, will be vastly improved as a result of this proposal."
