A Stoke-on-Trent domestic abuse service has opened the doors to its new dedicated Recovery Hub.

Last week (Tuesday 8 September), domestic abuse service Glow opened the new building, located in Stoke-on-Trent, which will act as a dedicated space for the delivery of the service's Recovery Hub programmes.

Part of Honeycomb Group, Glow's Recovery Hub was first launched in 2022 to provide specialist recovery support for women who have experienced domestic abuse.

Since then, the charity says it has supported hundreds of women across Staffordshire through accredited recovery programmes, counselling, wellbeing activities, volunteering opportunities and peer support.

Julie Guildford Smith, Chief Executive at Honeycomb Group, said: "This is an incredibly exciting moment for the Recovery Hub and for the women we support.

"Recovery from domestic abuse doesn't end when someone leaves an abusive relationship. For many survivors, that is when a different journey begins, one focused on rebuilding confidence, healing from trauma and reconnecting with themselves and others.

"Having a dedicated home means we can create the safe and welcoming environment our customers deserve, while expanding the opportunities available to them.

"Every day we see women move from surviving to thriving, and this new building will help us support even more people to take those next steps towards a brighter future."

The new space will provide a central hub for the team, bringing together a wide range of recovery, wellbeing and support activities under one roof.

According to the Honeycomb Group, 227 women took part in the Hub's core recovery programmes over the past 12 months alone.

These programmes include the Freedom Programme, Recovery Toolkit and You and Me, Mum.

One of Glow's Recovery Hub customers shared how the support she received helped her rebuild her confidence: "They were so patient and supportive and never made me feel rushed.

"My time with Glow's Recovery Hub was such an eye-opening experience and helped me find my confidence again.

"They encouraged me to start baking again, something I love, just for me. Now, I've got the confidence to start my own business and be my own boss.

"It works around my children, it brings me so much joy, and I don't think I'd be where I am today without their encouragement."

By creating a dedicated home for the service, Glow hopes to ensure that women across Staffordshire have somewhere they can access specialist support, build trusted relationships and continue their recovery in a supportive environment.

The move also comes as the Recovery Hub continues to grow, developing new partnerships, expanding counselling provision, increasing volunteering opportunities.

A spokesperson for the Honeycomb Group said that as the Recovery Hub grows, it is important that "survivors' voices remain at the heart of service development".
